I'd like to have my own room, nothing fancy, just the very basic.. no idea what the cost of rent would be plus other miscellaneous expenses.. would i be able to support myself working 20 hours a week?

Working 20 hours a week will give you after tax around $250 a week. Rent in a shared apartment near the uni (where these share type places are located) will be around $220 week sharing a room to $300 with your own room. That only is the rent portion nothing else. The information given to international students is that you can earn around 60% of your living costs by working the max hours. Thats all. Also you need to know that getting job with 20 hours a week every week is impossible - it will be 12 hours one week, 20 the next, 18 the next etc. If there is not much business, casuals are asked to leave.

Australian student want to bring wife to Australia.?
Australian student want to bring wife to Australia.?
Hi, I am studying in Australia on a student visa. I recently got married and now want to bring my wife here on spouse/dependent visa. I know the documents needed for that. However my question is : 1) How much funds I need to show to support her? 2) Can anyone from family (Mother/Father) show the funds back home, and basically sponsor my spouse? 3) Is it the lump sum amount or there are conditions like funds need to be 3 months old in the account etc. ? I would much appreciate your quick response, thanks a ton!

youth allowance is money from centrelink, if you are an independant & studying full time, not working, or not working enough to support yourself you should qualify. rent assistance is similar, if you don't get enough money on your own the gov. will help pay for some of your rent

Well first of all i hope you like it here :) it's a much more relaxed environment. Second of all new south wales isn't a territory, it's a state. But if you mean what day do we go back to school for semester two, then it is July 27th. Good luck for when you come down here and i hope you have a wonderful experience! xx
