You would have to apply at the American embassy and get on the waiting list to immigrate here.

If you only wanna stay for a few months or years( depending on visa) you need to find a job in the states and a company who is willing to help you with your visa even though everything they have to do is sending an offer of employment. Then you need to find a sponsor which you can do online. They re also going to help you with the visa application and the paper work. After you will get your immigration paper back form your sponsor you can go to the embassy and apply for the visa. If you are sure that you are willing to stay in the states for a longer time you should either think about applying for a green card at a green card lottery online. It is difficult to find employers in the states who are willing to help you with your visa because there are a lot of Americans who are able to do the job as well so in your application you should really point out your strength and experience. Then you might be able to apply for either an H- 1 Visa or an H2B which is a seasonal visa. For those types of visas it is also easier to find a job. Although the American Government tries to cancel the H2B Program but if you 'll go by next year you should be fine. Good luck with everything!!

These programs seem really good: Youth for Understanding, Intrax or Amerispan

The exchange program that I hear most about is sponsored by the Rotary club. These exchanges seem very safe and well prepared, and the only cost is plane tickets. I know several people who have had incredible experiences through Rotary. They organize summer exchanges where you live with someone in another country for a few weeks and then they visit you for a few weeks, as well as year-long programs where students stay with host families and go to high school for a year in another country. I really recommend that you look into this; it would be an unforgettable experience! More information here: http://www.rotary.org/en/StudentsAndYouth/YouthPrograms/RotaryYouthExchange/Pages/ridefault.aspx

My sister was sponsored by Rotary to America for a year, and my brother has taken in several people in australia through Rotary. But, what they do now is you only live for 3 months with a family, then you move on to another family. It is more than the cost of the ticket, your family has to agree to give you a weekly allowance to pay your expenses, things like bus fares, shampoo etc. The Rotary Exchange is very good, very safe so I would recommend it.

Japan. Totally different culture, pick up the basics of a language as you go.
2 :
I would say Austrailia. That would be awesome!!! I don't have any real reasons, other than I always wanted to go there. The people seem so laid back & cool, plus I LOVE their accent!
3 :
I think it depends on which language you're able to study in.
4 :
I would say do a little bit of research on the two different cultures. Find out what type of things in their histories you would be interested in seeing. For instance in Japan you could see some of the historical stuff regarding WWII in regards to the US (if that interests you). AIN Australia you could learn more about reefs and surfing. I don't think language is such an issue because being immersed in a culture you will quickly pick it up. Good luck and have a good time.

I believe this will depend more on the subject you plan to major in. Outsider will not be able to give you any correct answer. You know yourself best. Japan or Australia has its own specialty, and specialty core subjects. If you are looking at more technical or engineering related subjects, Japan will be it. If you are looking at business, administration, etc, then I think Australia will be more appropriate. Ultimately you make the decision for yourself, please.

If you are an American you can still apply for the FAFSA, which allows you to obtain FinAid for some over sea's universities. However, you might want to check out Australia's department of education website. http://www.dest.gov.au/sectors/international_education http://www.fafsa.ed.gov
