What is the average wage for a waitress in Australia for a gap year student?

What is the average wage for a waitress in Australia for a gap year student?
I want to go to Australia for a gap year and am trying to calculate how much I would earn as a waitress or barmaid. How much do they pay on average? Would they take me for 6 months or is that too short? What qualifications would I need? Any other suggestions of what I could do to earn money? Polite answers please :) Thanks in advance...

Try this site for average wages: http://www.payscale.com/?co=au&cm_mmc=Google%20INTL%20Ads-_-Organic%20Keywords-_-OrganicSalary-_-award%20wages%20victoria&gclid=COCKvtuAlJYCFRlRagodDFJJEA Of course, all places are different but when I used to waitress I would get $19.50 an hour and all the staff would split the tips (though tipping isn't a custom in Australia so I wouldn't count that in expected earnings). Some places would definitely take you for 6 months. Particularly companies like Delaware North that do catering and functions at the sporting venues, which are often seasonal (e.g. football season, tennis, cricket, concerts, etc.). Many restaurants hire staff casually too and they often leave after a few months so I think you should have no problems there. In terms of qualifications, some places will be willing to do (and pay for) the training for you (Often big chains or companies), others will expect you to already have qualifications. The 2 mains ones are 1. Safe Food Handling 2. Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA). Often TAFEs, community centers or adult education centers will offer these courses. Other suggestions: Nanny work Fruit Picking (though seasonal and hard work, often not near the cities) Retail
