How hard is it for an American student in Australia to get a job? I understand there's a 20 hr/week limit.

Once I get my visa w/ permission to work, I'm thinking of getting a job as a clothing shop clerk, a glassie, or barista. I'd like to know how easy/difficult it'll be to secure a job so I can budget accordingly.

Hello Soon enough I'll be in the same predicament as you. I am not sure if you are currently in Australia or not, but once you have the visa finding work in the fields you specify shouldn't be too difficult. Surprisingly enough, some of your main competition will come from other foreign young people on 1/2 year working holiday visas. The tourism industry is always a great idea, but if you end up in hospitality no worries--the average waiter, clerk, makes substantially more than they would in America about 15-22AUD an hour. Hope this helps :)
