Do I need to take TOEFL test to apply to Canadian university even though I am university student in Australia?

Do I need to take TOEFL test to apply to Canadian university even though I am university student in Australia?
I am from Iran and migrated to Australia. English is not my language even though I am studying in the university there. I didn't take any TOEL tests. Now I want to apply for university in Canada. Do I need to have TOEF test prior to my acceptance in university there?

1 :
I think that you will have to yes - as English is not your first language - the test has recently changed too, so get the latest package if you want to revise for it.
2 :
Better address this question to your prospective university.
3 :
yes u do.
4 :
It depends on the university. Will you be trying to transfer or are you trying to pursue another degree after graduating in Australia? Some universities will not require TOEFL scores from applicants who have a Bachelors degree from an English speaking country - in your case Australia, however other universities may require TOEFL scores regardless of your previous education and background. Contact the Canadian university's admissions office or review their admissions website. For further advice, please visit http://www.macquil.com
5 :
If you graduated from university in Australia and are now applying to another program - submitting your Australian grades as part of your application - then you do not need to take the TOEFL. However, if you simply took a few courses in Australia but did not complete the course of stufy (i.e. if you will be submitting grades from another, non-English institution as part of your application package), then you will need to take the TOEFL. Check the admissions website of the particular university that you are applying to, as regulations vary.
6 :
The Canadian university you are applying to will be able to clarify this for you, as it their requirement that you need to fulfil. Generally, if one has completed a full academic year in a tertiary institution where the language of instruction is English, the requirement for TOEFL, IELTS or any other English language test is removed. Your current Australian university will be able to provide you with a letter to this effect, but the final decision still lies with the University you are applying to.

what is it like to go to Australia as a student ambassador, is the plane ride scary?

what is it like to go to Australia as a student ambassador, is the plane ride scary?
I got a letter in the mail saying that I might get to go Australia. I know I have to get about five thousand dollars, and I'm really excited to go. I am afraid of heights though and wanted to know about riding on a plane for the first time. I would also like to know about what you do and what it's like in a different country? Please answer my question and thanks!

1 :
About the plane, I'm afraid of heights but planes don't bother me. Fear of planes is it's own phobia. Only the takeoff and landing is turbulent (bumpy) unless your flying in a storm. Then be prepared for a kinda rough ride. It's all normal though, just pockets of warmer air that is less dense because of its temperature and causes the plane to drop a few feet and the pilot to react by regaining the altitude and sometimes increasing power. The higher you are the smoother it is because the pockets of warm air have time to cool as they rise. These pockets come from skyscrapers and roads, so flying over the ocean is really smooth. Landing is rougher if there are crosswinds. But usually it's only a minute or so after takeoff and about 10 minutes while decreasing altitude to land that is bumpy and can get scary. That's why they tell you to sit, put your seatbelt on, and seatback forward. If they do this mid-flight don't panic, it's because the pilot feels it's too turbulent to be walking around.
2 :
My first plan ride was when i was in grade six and its not that scary. The only thing scary are the toilets lol They make this really big whooshing sound when you flush it and i tried not to use it =D The only thing i hate was that my ears would get blocked when we left off and landed, so i had to yawn a lot and gum didn't help. It's really boring soo take a book or your ipod or something fun and if your seated in the aisle try not to sleep that way coz the flight attendants with the trolley kept hitting me. OW Enough about the planes and onto Australia. Australia is one of the greatest countries ever except if your going soon we do have to take shorter showers and not to waste as much water as possible because all the water was drying out but not anymore sorta. In Australia cars drive on the left side! Important if you don't want to get hit by a car. We use a lot of Aussie slang and the people i know are really sarcastic. Its exciting being in another country but its also scary. If your going to the bush its beautiful but scary and the city is exactly the same. Most of the people are great but like any other country there are good and bad people and places. I suggest you go to the gold coast, near brisbane, it has a lot of theme parks that are safe like Dreamworld, White water world, Wet 'n' Wild, Movie World etc Their good coz they are only a short distance from each other. Erm i havn't really explored Australia but i have been to the Sydney harbour bridge. Get a tour guide or something =] Hopefully if you do go there you can understand the accent and some of the words. Btw where are you from?

With the proper licenses you can. Good luck to you with your business.

Which bank is better for an overseas student in Australia?

Which bank is better for an overseas student in Australia?
I am wondering if someone can tell me if Commonwealth or National Bank in Australia is better than the other? I've been doing some research online and they look similar in terms of what they offer. I was told that Commonwealth has to mail my atm card to me and will not let me pick up my card from the bank directly, which I don't really like. Does anyone know anything about National? Which one would you suggest? and why? I will be in Melbourne. What are some of the smaller banks you speak of?
Melbourne - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
They are all very similar and will offer you similar benefits - security is the key and how each bank manages this for you is important. Cards are normally sent to you as part of their security control.
2 :
I personally wouldn't bank with any of the 'big four'. All of Australia's banks are absolutely safe so that isn't anything you need to be concerned about and you'll find that the smaller banks have more personal and better service and generally offer better fees and conditions so make sure you include them in your comparison. Most of the smaller banks have more branches and ATMs in one or two states - what state will you be in? EDIT: The Bendigo Bank (which is also allied with Suncorp) would be worth looking at and so would the Bank of Queensland which has a good presence in Melbourne and its suburbs and a very large number of ATMs. At the BofQ, if your ATM card dies, you can go into any branch and get a new one over the counter and you can also get statements over the counter for no charge - try doing that at one of the big 4.
3 :
All of the big four, ANZ, Commonwealth, Westpac and NAB are very similar. Pick the one with ATMs or a branch close to where you will be living and/or studying. All universities have bank branches within them so find out which are available where you are. The big four have ATMs everywhere. You can use your card in any ATM but it will cost you at least $2 to use one that is not your bank's. The smaller banks are fine for some people but they would really be unsuitable for an overseas student here.
4 :
If you are dealing with overseas foreign electronic transfers, choose Bendigo. My experience with NAB is they have been obstructionist and intrusive, asking unnecessary questions and on one occesion actually losing a transfer. Commonwealth, especially in the inner suburbs are good, but they do post cards and that seems to be no problem. It is to establish that you live where you claim to live. Westpac are not so hot either. The smaller community banks really go the extra mile and they are pleasant to deal with. They have permanent staff, so you get to know who you are dealing with.

you can only work 20 hours per week while studying but when school is on holidays you may work full time
2 :
You can work for up to 20 hours per week while your course is in session - a week is 7 days beginning on Monday and finishing on the following Sunday. You can work unlinited hours during official course breaks (vacations). You cannot do any work until your course begins. The department considers your course to be 'in session': • for the duration of the advertised semesters (including periods when exams are being held) • if you have completed your studies and your Confirmation of Enrolment is still in effect • if you are undertaking another course, during a break from your main course and the points will be credited to your main course.

About university school fee for oversea student in Australia?

About university school fee for oversea student in Australia?
Hi, I just want to know the range of university school fee for overseas students studying in Australia (I am one myself), especially for my course ( I want to be a math teacher). Please help, thanks in advance. And by getting a permanent visa, would it help reduce my school fee? Thanks heaps. And Im staying in perth so I'm looking at universities in Perth :D
Studying Abroad - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
it really depends on what sort of course you want to do what the fees would be. at my uni (monash in melbourne) these are the sort of fees you'll be looking at: visual arts: $ 19000 AUD arts: $ 19400 AUD journalism: $ 20850 AUD business and commerce: $ 22480 AUD nursing: $ 21500 AUD primary education: $ 19650 AUD science: $ 24470 AUD social work: $ 18900 AUD law: $ 23600 AUD economics: $ 22480 AUD engineering: $ 25800 AUD computer science: $ 23800 AUD info tech: $ 23800 AUD medicine: $ 42300 AUD pharmacy: $ 27300 AUD so pretty much you're looking at a range between $18000 and $26000 unless you want to do medicine. I'm not sure that a permanent visa would reduce your fee. I think only citizenship will do that. unless you've been here for a while, and aren't just coming over to study, most of hte time you will not be able to apply for permanent residency until you've completed your studies. i think monash is a more expensive university though. so have a look around at other university sites. try these unis, their fees are lower for a lot of things: http://www.latrobe.edu.au/coursefinder/courseFind.jsp?level=UG&type=I http://vu.edu.au/library/scripts/objectifyMedia.aspx?file=pdf/570/53.pdf&siteID=4&str_title=2008 undergraduate course list.pdf this site has a list of all australian universities: http://www.australian-universities.com/list/

Is it possible to study all three years in Australia as an international student?
I'm looking at going to college in Australia, but it seems that all of the international programs only offer a semester to one year of schooling. Is it possible to take all three years there as an international student without having to go through a college in the states (or come back to finish college in the states)?

G'day Rockrgrl, Thank you for your question. Yes you can providing you are accepted into an Australian university. The study in Australia page provides more information about how you can complete your degree. However, in some courses, you may need to do additional study in the US. If you do come to Australia, I hope you enjoy it. Regards
2 :
Yes, many schools around the world will allow you to study as an international student seeking a degree if you meet certain requirements. I don't know the requirements for Australia though. You need to apply and get visa paperwork ready if you are accepted. After that you can tell yourself "welcome to OZ"
3 :
G'day, Yes you can. In Australian education system, colleges/TAFE (public colleges) are normally offering Certificate or Diploma courses, which are the levels between High School to Bachelor degree. However please be advised that High School graduates from USA cannot enter the Australian university directly. Therefore you can start by attending Diploma courses at the colleges and then transfer your credits to Australian Uni to get your bachelor degree. Hope that helps. I am providing a link to an Australian education agency in America so you can get more info abt studying in Australia. Good luck and welcome to Australia :)

Is it okay to plan to live permanently in Australia after the student visa expires ?
I'm going to Australia this year to study (Tourism Management), and i plan to stay there permanently after i finish studying. Will it be okay or will i have a hard time doing so ?
Immigration - 4 Answers

1 :
You'll have a hard time. Why don't you save yourself the headache, and apply for PR 6 months into your studies. You might find yourself surprised if accepted.
2 :
LOL! No! You will be in Australia illegally, unable to get proper work and will be deported when found, which will prevent you from going to many other countries.
3 :
You will have a very hard time staying here legally as you have no chance of getting a work visa (or work for that matter) with Tourism Management qualifications. We need more tourism managers like we need swine flu or a longer drought and only people in occupations in which we need workers can get visas to stay here. You will have an even harder time if you intend staying here illegally. If you can't find an occupation you will be qualified for on this list, you will not be able to live and work here. You will also need experience: http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1121i.pdf
4 :
you cant just stay. you have to apply for a residency visa after your studies end. The best one for you to use AFTER you graduate will be this one. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/485/

As I've answered before, you can apply for a student visa if the tennis academy is registered as a CRICOS education provider and if the course is full time. If one or both of those requirements is not met, your only alternative is a tourist visa. There are no other options.

I think your best bet would be to contact immigration they will help you.
2 :
She applies for another student visa, but this time as a dependent on your visa. Normally, you must have included all family members on your application even if they weren't coming to Australia, but as she wasn't your wife when you applied for your visa, she can apply as soon as you are married and will be eligible for a visa. I won't give you a link as the correct one depends on your visa and assessment level, but how to go about it is fairly obvious on the DIAC website - her assessment level will be the same as yours, even if she holds a different passport. Select your visa type and go to the application section. You will probably also need to lodge a Form 919. Note that she is only able to study for a maximum of 3 months when she is here as a dependent and will only be able to work for a maximum of 20 hours per week all year around (unless you're here on a Postgraduate research visa).

hello frnds i just want ur opinion about what kind of racism do i have to face as an indian student going to sydney australia?

First of all, welcome to Sydney! Racism in Sydney usually isn't too bad, except you may want to learn a few Australian phrases. My Indian neighbor leaned that the hard way. Just done try to act different because you don't think you'll fit in. Sydney goers are generally well behaved =] Hope that helps.
2 :
If you come here EXPECTING racism, then no matter what people do - you will only take it as racism and get offended. I would rather say to you - COME to Australia. Enjoy it. There are people of many nationalities living here and we all get along fine. There is racism everywhere in the world and you may~~ come across some - but only as much as you would experience if you go anywhere in the world. I am of Asian origin and have lived here for over 36 years and I personally have not experience any racism myself. Australians are- on the whole - laid back and easy going and we don't care where you come from. Treat us the was you want to be treated and you will be fine. (And when I say "Australians" I don't mean white people - I mean ANY Australian. I am an Australian.) Come, enjoy. Don't whinge or whine about how bad things here or criticise our way of living and you will get along. If you whinge - we will likely tell you to go back where you come from. Cheers from southern New South Wales.
3 :
Come here and enjoy what this country has to offer have a positive attitude and have fun.Just make sure you learn to drive the proper way.
4 :
It will most likely be subtle rather than overt. Sydney's more cosmopolitan than it was twenty years ago. Enjoy your stay!
5 :
There isn't much overt racism in sydney. There are lots of Indian people here. It is a very mixed society, we are all from lots of different places, so I think you will be absolutely fine.

If I study for 2 years in Australia with student visa, will I be eligible to apply for permanent resident ship?
If I study for 2 or more years can I directly apply for Permanent Resident ship? In that case do I need any work experience for applying for Permanent Resident ship?

No. You must work in the country, or have someone sponsor you. You can not just go from being a student visa to permanent resident.
2 :
Studying in Australia does not guarantee that you will be able to apply for a permanent visa: You can only apply if: • your occupation is listed on the Skilled Occupations List (SOL) http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1121i.pdf • you have at least 1 year of work experience (most occupations). Work experience was formerly a separate component on the points test - it is now included as a requirement for obtaining a positive skills assessment for most occupations. • you have obtained a positive skills assessment from the body responsible for assessing your occupation; http://www.immi.gov.au/asri/a-z.htm#a • you have met the 2 year study requirement by completing at least 92 academic weeks of study leading to qualifications in your nominated occupation. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/885/eligibility-study.htm • you score at least 120 points on the points test http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/885/eligibility-table-overseas.htm • you have a score of at least 6 in each of the 4 IELTS components (unless you are from a designated English speaking country). A higher IELTS score is required for some occupations. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/885/eligibility-english.htm • you meet health and character requirements. http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/health-requirements/ http://www.immi.gov.au/media/fact-sheets/79character.htm For everything else including costs and how to apply, go to: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/885/

I am making two assumptions with my answer: (1) you are a high school student and (2) you live in the USA. Forgive me, but I have a bit of bad news. Many organizations have suspended their programs to the UK due to a difficulty in getting student visas. However, these programs might possibly resume for the 2011-2012 school year. If I may, I would like to cast a vote for Youth For Understanding (YFU). I am a 5-time host mom and volunteer with YFU (in the USA). When I have asked exchange students why they chose YFU, I get the following answers: (1) YFU gave them more bang for their buck and/or (2) someone they knew and trusted recommended YFU. 95% of the fees collected by YFU go for direct program costs (airline tickets, support in hosting country, etc.). YFU has been around for 59 years and has learned how to make exchanges successful. If you would consider one of YFU's other English-speaking programs (this year they have them to South Africa, Ghana, India, and Australia) or one of the other approximately 30 countries that don't require previous language study, you can email me or check out the website : yfuusa.org. I sincerely wish you luck! Please do make sure that any program that you choose is listed with the Council for Standards for International Educational Travel (csiet.org).

Australia is very strict and you would be competing with a lot of well educated people. Not easy at all and nothing in life worth having is easy.
2 :
I'm not too sure what a BBA is but I presume it's a Bachelor's degree from university. The problem is Australians tend to go via work experience and then credentials. For example they had a shortage of hairdressers and plumbers. DIAC (Department of Immigration and Citizenship) would look at how many years people had worked in that job, then they would look at their credentials (eg what country they came from and if they would meet the standard of Australian ones). My friend was trained as an accountant at university. Great on paper but never had a job in his life. When he went to the real world he found he couldn't get a job as an accountant because he had no work experience, even though he said he would happily work any level in accounting, he got declined because they all thought that once he had his experience that he would leave and he works in Australia. He eventually worked in a job that offers less pay then he could have gotten but he is getting work experience and I expect he'll have a harder time going to become an accountant when the time is up because then they'll say that he needs to refresh his knowledge because he hasn't worked there for awhile.

I am going on Student Exchange to Australia?

I am going on Student Exchange to Australia?
I am going on student exchange to Australia!! I live in France, and I am to go to Australia for 6 months in December - June. What can I expect from going on Exchange to Australia? I'm quite nervous! What is the differences between France and Australia? I speak English well, so that is not a problem, but the culture differences are worrying. What am I to expect? I will be living in both canberra and sydney!

You will love it. On average I found Australians to be the friendliest most open people I have met. It may take some getting used to their blunt approach, not always diplomatic, just straightforward
2 :
Exchange is very exciting, I've done it twice. Assuming you'll be here for more than 2 months, you'll likely experience culture shock. "Shock" is a bit of a strong word, but you will go through a few emotions, how intense will depend on your situation (mine were noticeable, but nothing too difficult). It depends on how adjustable you are. But first you'll be excited, as everything is new and different. Then you'll be annoyed, as your way makes more sense then their way. And then you adjust, and accept the difference. Australia is quite laid back, you'll enjoy it. There is a lot to see and do! Never been to Canberra, but Sydney is a great city - you're very lucky to be living there. Don't be nervous, you'll love it! Be excited!

What are the requirements to b eligible for doing PG in medicine in australia for an indian student?
i am a medical student in my 2nd year and i wanted to know which is the exam to be given for being eligible to PG in australia , just like USMLE is for the US

AMC theory is the exam that you have to give. Also, AMC practical is similar to CS part of USMLE but much more difficult. This exam has to be given in Australia. You have to be registered with Royal Australasian college- 3 years of training in medicine- then you have to write FRACP . If you pass it then you have to do 3 years of advance training and you will become a consultant. So, there is a lot to be done. However, you should know that once that is complete, you can easy land a job for excess of $4500 per month. Log on to www.amc.org to find out more. You could also list your question on Indiancrib.com; It is a website for indians in Australia and it provides answers to these sort of questions.

I believe that most educational visas do not allow work here, unfortunately. I would definitely check with your university and the Australian Embassy where you are to find out for sure. Until then, I would not count on being able to get a job without residency/citizenship/or a special work visa. Also, the Austrailan dollar is only equal to 75 cents United States. So, if you earn 100 dollars, it's only worth 75 dollars in the states.
2 :
I think Mel is right about the visa not permitting work here in Aus... however as with most things, some one will more than likely overlook legalities... the thing is your not going to get paid much working for someone dodgy, and part time work isn't the easiest to find, unless your speciffically trained at something, and living in one of the major cities eg Sydney or Melbourne.
3 :
hi niki that depends on the city you are going for? it would be not less than 300 aus $ per week in cities like Adelaide melbourne sidney canberra pls visit ADP council in your city for information Dont go for any Cnsultancies where there is a possibility for mis guidance. ADP is a counselling centre which is conducted by Aus professionals to assist people Have a bright career ahead
4 :
G'day Niki... nice to see you again in this forum :) Part-time casual jobs usually earns between AUD$15-$25/hr gross. This means that it still has to be deducted for taxation purposes. Depending on your total income in a year, you might get some back when you do your tax return at the end of financial year. If you want to have some rough idea abt living expenses for international students, the weblink below will give you some info, as it is prepared by a university in Australia based on international students' experience. Hope this helps. Good luck :)

if you have the appropriate visa i don't see why not.
2 :
In general, there is a high demand for civil engineers in Australia if you look at employment websites. Of course, it also depends on the "respectability" of the university you choose. You just need to be on the correct visa to work. If you need more help in choosing universities, there are a number of websites that provide information and tips about studying and living in Australia.
3 :
International student?I'm sorry to say: small chance if you are a fresh graduate, specially in the field of formal business such as engineer, IT or accounting. I suggest you start to survey or have a look at the "demand" and the expected requirements from hiring companies nowadays. Check out in : www.gumtree.com.au www.seek.com.au..etc See whether they want to hire fresh graduate. Sometime they note if they want only local. And yes, valid visa work is essential otherwise, just forget about it. Some skill visas may need you to have work experience

You are aware that before you apply for a student visa you must have already applied and been accepted to a university in Australia. The program is irrelevent to getting the visa, just a program which interests you: Business, Psychology, Sociology, Philosophy, Economics, English, Math, Science... the list is endless, take a look at the university's website for the programs which it offers and see if anything sparks your interest.

You can certainly go to New Zealand during vacation time as your student will allow for multiple entries to Australia, but whether you need a visa for NZ will depend entirely on your passport country. There is no blanket arrangement covering international students studying in Australia. See "Do I need a visa or permit?" at: http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/visit/
2 :
No, only permanent residence permit holders of Australia may travel to New Zealand visa vaiwed. You will need a visa if you should not hold the citizenship of a visa.waived country. Source(s): http://glossary.immigration.govt.nz/visafreecountries.htm
3 :
Your student visa in Australia gives you absolutely no rights when it comes to holidaying in New Zealand. It will depend on your passport country on whether you will need a tourist visa or not. Only Australian citizens are entitled to the 'agreement' you mention.

People who want to study in Australia may be granted a Student visa that entitles them to come to Australia on a temporary basis for a specified period to undertake study at an Australian educational institution. While many overseas students make a decision to apply for permanent residence upon completing their studies, this is an entirely separate process and there is no guarantee that, on the basis of having held a student visa, a person will meet the requirements to be granted permanent residence. http://www.immi.gov.au/students/students-gsm.htm If you come to Australia on a Student visa, Permanent Residency doesn't automatically follow but your studies may have made you eligible to apply for a permanent visa or for a temporary visa that may eventually lead to a permanent one. If you study in Australia for at least 2 academic years (92 weeks) and if your studies have led to qualifications in an occupation on the Skilled Occupations List (SOL) and if you can pass the points test and meet English language, health and character requirements, you can apply for a permanent onshore visa. The SOL is reviewed every year and occupations are removed if there is no longer a high demand. If your occupation is no longer on the SOL when you graduate, you must either study for a different occupation on a new Student visa ; find employer sponsorship for a temporary visa or leave the country. If you graduate with qualifications in an eligible occupation but still need additional work experience or English skills in order to pass the points test, you can apply for a Graduate visa that provides an 18 month temporary work visa to enable you to get to the required standard so that you can apply for a permanent visa. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/_pdf/sol-schedule3.pdf The current SOL - a new one will be announced in May http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/visa-options-inside.htm Visas Alternatively, studying in Australia gives you the opportunity to find an employer who will be willing to sponsor you after graduation for a temporary visa. After working on a temporary employer sponsored visa for 2 years, that employer can sponsor you for a permanent ENS visa if your occupation is on the Employer Nomination Scheme Occupations List (ENSOL) and if the employer is willing and able to meet all of the conditions for ENS sponsorship. http://www.comlaw.gov.au/Details/F2010L03158 The ENSOL http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/skilled-workers/visa-options.htm Employer sponsored visas

Timeline for attending college in Australia for a US student?

Timeline for attending college in Australia for a US student?
I am a current US high school senior, and was thinking of applying to a university in Australia... I tried looking for a timeline for admissions stuff, but couldn't find any. Since first semester is in January for schools in Australia, how would that work as a US student? And if I applied now would I be able to get an admissions decision around the same time I'll be getting decisions for my schools in the US?
Higher Education (University +) - 1 Answers

1 :
You won't find any general timeline info about studying abroad because each university and college the world over has its own timeline set for native and foreign students. I'm guessing you would have to start the process well in advance if they start university in January. That is a bit of poor planning right off the bat, and you can't survive in a foreign country if you can't plan properly. First of all - you have no idea what school you even want to go to in Australia. So, that lets me know that this may be a spur of the moment decision for you. If you had researched and narrowed down the colleges of choice you were looking at - you would not even have to post this question because all of them would have had a section for "international applicants" that would have told you exactly what to do. So I suggest, if you're really serious about this, that your next steps be thusly: 1) Decide what you want to major in. What are your career interests. There's no way you're gonna go to another country and do what most American kids do here - waffle around not declaring a major til Jr year - and even then, still not being sure. So narrow down some majors for yourself. 2) RESEARCH and IDENTIFY Australian universities that can accommodate that major! You're not gonna go to Australian Arts University if you wanna be a scientist. Then again, if you are going back and forth between wanting to be a scientist and a writer - you may want to research both types of universities and then -> 3) LOOK up the admission requirements and deadlines for foreign students for EACH school you're interested in. You will probably have to have your grades and other test scores converted to its equivalent in Australia. This stuff takes TIME. You may even have to take Australian tests if American ones aren't accepted (i.e. ACT, SAT). You will probably need recommendations from teachers, employers, etc. You'll more than likely have to write an essay about why you want to go to that university. 4) READ the application requirements and begin getting the materials together to be able to complete the application CORRECTLY. Then fill out the application online (or however they request it). FINANCIAL AID will be a huge factor - that's also another process that takes massive amounts of TIME. You'll be wanting to research and apply for study abroad or international education scholarships. Trust me - you'll need that. A lot of universities want to know you can support yourself UP FRONT for all the years you intend to be there as you will not have access to their welfare or needy person programs. And most, if not all, foreign universities will not allow you to work any significant amount of time while you study. They are not trying to give their resources and jobs to people who have other countries to go home to and for whom studying abroad is a luxury. If your parents will fork over enough cash to cover you - you'll have to prove that you have all the money you need IN THE BANK before you leave. They'll ask for financial records. You will definitely be too late to apply for and win any scholarships at this late date. You can try checking www.fastweb.com as a start. It's a great resource anyway. Your high school counselor should also be able to tell you of other relevant scholarship and grant opportunities, but since you're the one who wants to go abroad - you're the one responsible to do the leg work to try to get there. Be sure that you want to go to the university, too as some of them may charge steep admissions fees of $50 - $75 dollars or more. They do this so they don't waste time going through frivolous applications. 5) IDENTIFY the person to contact for international applicants and make sure you email that person or call. They have hundreds and hundreds of new and returning applicants and can't be expected to remember any of you. The more you make yourself known, the better advantage you give yourself over other applicants. Don't email the person every day or anything, but as soon as you identify them - find a reason to touch base. Email them and tell them you've just submitted an application and you're excited about the possibility of being accepted and if they need any additional information from you - feel free to let you know. Ask them if there are any current American and/or Australian students who would be willing to talk to you about the university and their experiences there. ALWAYS DO THAT. It shows you're serious and that you have a real interest in the university and the university culture.

Hi, I'm a UK citizen. I did an MA and PG Dip in Oz and in total I studied for nearly 2 years which is the minimum time required to apply for PR. It's tough going. Australian law constantly changes (about every 3 months when I was there) and there are condtions such as where someone can live and what job vacancies are required to be filled at the time of procesing your PR application. You need to be able to prove that you can support yourself financially throughout your study period. Student working hours are limited to 20 hours per week. I also found that nationality plays a part in whether your application is successful. That's to say, at one given time they'll favour a Chinese person and the next week another nationality. It's a very fickle and biased system in my experience. There are other ways to go about it such as Skilled Sponsored Migration Visa. The most important advice I can give to you is make sure your Masters' degree is useful and can be used to find work Australia. Don't just study anything in order to try and get PR because it won't work. You MUST have some thing to offer Australia if you want Australia to accept you. A few years have passed since I was there so maybe some things have changed. Check with DIMIA. Hope this helps. Col

Usual paperwork, birth certificates mainly. If it's to be in a church you will need a baptism certificate. You just apply for a marriage licence. Look it up on an Australian government website eg Births deaths and Marriages website.

getting married isn't the problem....One can always get married anywhere in the world. The real question is where will you both live., If he is on a student visa, and you decide to re-locate w/him in Australia, you would become a dependent/spousal student visa (not sure what the proper term for this)....but bottom line, you wont be able to work there.

The difficulty is that since you are only allowed to work 20 hours a week and those hours have to fit around your uni schedule its unlikely that you will find 20 hours within 9-5pm M-F to work in a company. No software developer will hire a student to work from home - this is a perk of an experienced SD.

This will depend whether you live on or off campus and whether you share that accomodation. For Accomodation you will probably need at a minimum $100 per week. For food, well again that depends on how much you eat. But budget $100-150 per week. You will then need fares and general living expenses. Again another $100-150 per week. Then ther will be fees and other uni expenses. So at a guess about $20000 for the year and that is living frugally. If you live in Canberra then add another $5000.

This amount will vary depending where you live (city or country), whether you are in a high or low cost area, and your personal lifestyle. This amount does not include international airfares or tuition fees." "As an international student on an Australian student visa, you can work up to 20 hours each week during semester, and full-time during vacation periods. Most universities and colleges have employment services that will help you find a job." Good luck with your applications!
