I am international student who is interested to study in Perth, Australia?
I am a Sri lankan who want to study in Australia. I heard that Perth is cheap. What are good and bad points about Perth? I hope to take Hairdressing course there. Is Perth Institute a recognized one in Australia? How about cost of living there? Is it possible to apply PR after completing my 2 year Diploma? How much can I earn by odd jobs per hour? Is it possible to find odd jobs there?

hey I'm Indian and lived in Perth. it is a great city. The University of Western Australia is the best uni in WA, but there are others like Edith cowan university and a private uni called notre dame university. these university's, especially UWA are one of the top uni's in Australia. Perth is a peacefull place but sometimes gets boring since it is not near other busy city's like Sydney. there are many odd jobs to be found in Perth and depending on your age and experience you can get from 10 - 25 dollars per hour. you can even get a job at a hairdresser shop and do work experience with pay. whilst from former accounts stating that Perth is cheap, in the past few years the Perth house market has risen and is the same as Sydney's. Hope every thing works out for you!

Any course in australia that allowed me to have a student visa and cost less than $11000 p/a?
I d love to study in Melbourne, but to stay there and have a student visa I am allowed to do certain courses that cost me far too much, always around $ 11000 (5.000 pounds) per year, is there any school that offer something more affordable for an international student?

what is the estimate living expenses for a college student in australia, rent, food, tranpso, utilities?
what is the estimate living expenses for a college student in australia, rent, food, tranpso, utilities?
I'd like to have my own room, nothing fancy, just the very basic.. no idea what the cost of rent would be plus other miscellaneous expenses.. would i be able to support myself working 20 hours a week?
Higher Education (University +) - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :

Working 20 hours a week will give you after tax around $250 a week. Rent in a shared apartment near the uni (where these share type places are located) will be around $220 week sharing a room to $300 with your own room. That only is the rent portion nothing else. The information given to international students is that you can earn around 60% of your living costs by working the max hours. Thats all. Also you need to know that getting job with 20 hours a week every week is impossible - it will be 12 hours one week, 20 the next, 18 the next etc. If there is not much business, casuals are asked to leave.

Australian student want to bring wife to Australia.?
Hi, I am studying in Australia on a student visa. I recently got married and now want to bring my wife here on spouse/dependent visa. I know the documents needed for that. However my question is : 1) How much funds I need to show to support her? 2) Can anyone from family (Mother/Father) show the funds back home, and basically sponsor my spouse? 3) Is it the lump sum amount or there are conditions like funds need to be 3 months old in the account etc. ? I would much appreciate your quick response, thanks a ton!

youth allowance is money from centrelink, if you are an independant & studying full time, not working, or not working enough to support yourself you should qualify. rent assistance is similar, if you don't get enough money on your own the gov. will help pay for some of your rent

I have some friends in Guymon, Oklahoma. It is very flat there, and dry! Yes, in a sense it is like the movies. There are also large cities and a good nightlife (in nearby Oklahoma City, or Amarillo, Texas. Also, Vegas isn't too far away!
2 :
Everyone looks at TX thinking it's all cows and farms.. No! Thats sooo not true.. We have Houston, Dallas, and Austin. Major cities of the US. Don't get me wrong.. there are a few farming and crop growing areas but I mean.. thats a little everywhere you go, ya kno. Texas is a wonderful place, and I love it! Although.. I like choices and life expierence, soooo I'd like to move out of Texas one day.
3 :
Umm no nothing over here is like the movies sorry to say but welcome to the states. Northern Texas and Oklahoma can get pretty cold in the winter time I spent some time in Central Texas when I was in the military a few years ago. I don't really know what the temperatures are like in Australia so I can't really say.
4 :
i'm from ardmore, oklahoma. No not really cowboys. there are some people who wear cowboy hats and that stuff.i'm not really sure about the accents. we think we soundl like everyone else but when you go on vaction people ask if we're from the SOUTH. Theres no tumbleweed and it is pretty much modernized depending on what part of the location your at. YES it hot, well not really hot but VERRY HUMID> ANd we're very friendly. where i'm from there are a few farms. and soime car racing. AND LOTS OF LAND
5 :
i moved to tulsa, oklahoma for college as well. im originally from california so there is a slight difference. the summers are extremely hot(100+) and its always humid(close to 100%) due to the numerous lakes in the state. its full of bible thumpers so be prepared to be judged. they're all hypocrites though, so don't take their crap. yes alot of people have the southern draw, but i never saw a tumble weed until i was about 5 minutes outta the sub burbs. lots of winding country roads and farms. great golf if thats your thing. winters are cold and bitter. its snow's but not to where you can enjoy it. gone in a day or two and usually slush shortly after it hits the ground. although the population density is vastly different from where i was from driving was more difficult. people there cannot drive for crap. everything there is SLOOOOOW. best of luck.
6 :
Around there, it is pretty humid, at least compared to where I'm from, in Colorado. Texans definitely have a crazy accent, though not as dramatic as in the movies. There are tumbleweeds, but depending on the city or town, it is modernized. It's pretty hot there in the summer, but it can get rather cold in the winter. I'll be moving to the Missouri and Oklahoma border this fall for school. But that is on the other side of OK. lol. Also, cowboys aren't generally like they are in the movies. Also, don't be a hypocrite like the person before me. That person is judging the "Bible-thumpers" and obviously feels threatened by happy people.(I'm not speaking for all Christians...there are some who don't act the way they ought to) I'm just saying, if you don't want to be judged, don't judge anyone else.
7 :
ok, im from texas so i know more or less what im talking about. there are tumble weeds in west texas mostly so probably not where you are going. cowboys, not so many, but alot of people really do have an accent. texas is really has SOME of the most modern cities in the US, but the farther west, the more farms. in east texas its really humid, but west is really really dry. in east texas the humidity makes everything alot hotter. and dont worry, everyone gets a little curious sometime
8 :
I was up that way a couple weeks ago, and yes there are big cities, but also barren, dry areas in Texas and Oklahoma. The people are down home and friendly for the most part, but I don't know what it is like in your area of Australia, so this may not help. Good luck to you and hope you like the schools. Oh, it can be really hot in the summer, cold in winter, even snow in places, and watch out for the tornados.

questions about student visa in australia?
questions about student visa in australia?
I am studying to get my GED. I then want to go to australia and study. Can someone tell me is it possible to get financial aid in the US that would cover my tuition in Australia? Where would I look? and also do I need any other source of income to qualify for this visa?

Firstly good luck on your GED. I can't help you in regard to US based financial aid, though knowing our univeristies and TAFE's I sincerely doubt you'll get any financial help from the US, unless you do a course based in the US that has an overseas option (I know of a few Australian courses with this). Study visas in Australia have some very strict conditions. Firstly you must remain enrolled in your course for the normal course duration, and maintain a passing grade (in other words you can't "fail out"). Also international students pay up front for the course plus the cost of books e.t.c. To give you an idea TAFE NSW International students studying Diploma of Community Welfare are paying $A18000 (as at beginning of this year) per year for the 2 year course, that's in fees alone. University students pay more and the amount you pay depends on the course for example a student studying Bachelor of Medicine at the University of Sydney is paying $A16500/year whereas to study Law at the University of Western Sydney it'd be $A13500/year. On top of this comes the cost of text books (TAFE generally has very few to none) to a 1st year nurse paying $A800 for the first semester text books. Also you have to pay living expenses. You don't qualify for free medical treatment either and a visit to a GP can cost $A50 on average. Best bet is to have medical insurance (one of my fellow students paid $A2000 for a procedure that's free for me a citizen). There is good news though. A student visa allows you work up to 20hrs/week, so you are able to earn a small income to help out. You may also qualify for a scholarship. This website is a very good government sponsored website about studying in Australia (in fact education is one of our biggest exports because you have world class education at a fraction the cost of Europe or the US): http://studyinaustralia.gov.au/Sia/Splash.aspx For TAFE course (aka vocational courses) in NSW: http://www.tafensw.edu.au University information/applications: http://www.uac.edu.au
2 :
In order to qualify for an Australian student visa, you must first be accepted by the university of your choice; you must declare that you have sufficient funds to pay your tuition for the duration of your course and that you have at least AUD$12000 for each year of your course for living expenses. You will not have to pay for your entire course up front, but the first year's tuition will be required. http://www.immi.gov.au/students/students/chooser/ Whether an Australian university will accept you will depend on your academic results in high school or an acceptable equivalent and the course you wish to apply for. Extra-curricular is not taken into account. You have already been given a link to the following US financial aid website, but here it is again: http://www.studyinaustralia.gov.au/Sia/en/Help/NorthAmerica/costs/Financial_Aid.htm Many of our universities have web pages devoted to the question of financial aid for overseas students. Here is the one from the University of Queensland: http://www.uq.edu.au/international/index.html?page=60982&pid=66581 You will definitely not be eligible for any financial support from the Australian government. On a student visa, you will be allowed to work for up to 20 hours per week while your course is in session and unlimited hours during official course breaks.

Hi MT, Perhaps you are discovering that you have left it all too late in being consistent with your studies? Our lives are entwined with life and when we waste our time, we waste our life! Wasted time cannot be recycled! I don't know if it is too late or not. The only way to test if you have would be to make an application or ask about the requirements needed to become an exchange student. Sadly, many students fail to realize that the whole purpose of schooling is to enable them to build a solid educational foundation on which to build their careers. I have responded to many letters to Yahoo Answers where students in their early twenties bemoan the fact that they are having difficulty securing gainful employment and they admit that they squandered their learning opportunities. See if you are able to determine the grade level for student-exchange programs. Best wishes.

i am an international student in australia. i have good listening skills but have have problems with speaking?
and i may sound or look rude from the outside because i can't talk and express myself as much as i could in my own language. it is quite depressing sometimes. does anyone feel the same way? people who have english as their first language or have no problems with speaking english fluently can answer too.

a lot of international students feel the same way. its hard to communicate if you're put in a place where people speak fluent english when english is not your first or second language. what annoys me more is that when you can speak the language fluently but then when you speak to someone who speaks english really fast, you become speechless. don't worry. you'll eventually get used to speaking the language. it just takes time. going to english language classes might also help but its a little expensive.
2 :
I've felt the same way when I was living in another country (non-English). You are not alone! I think a good way to overcome your speaking issue would be to get an english speaking boyfriend/girlfriend or to see if you can get a language buddy. Your university/college might be able to help you with this. A buddy would be able to help you not only with language and friendship, but will also help you to better understand the local culture. You should not pay anyone for this service, but you could offer your buddy help learning your language, culture or even cooking your home national food. Good luck!

What would be the avg. earning for a foreign student working in part time in Australia?
What would be the avg. earning for a foreign student working in part time in Australia?
Hello, here is the scenario I am a computer graduate in a south Asian country, and I am trying to get admission in masters in Australia, I just want to know if I work in part time there along with my masters studies, than what can be the basic amount I would be earning? I have also done CCNA, would that help me getting a better job in Australia?
Studying Abroad - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
The employment situation in IT in Australia is currently not at all good. You will not have an easy time finding a job that uses your IT skills, even with CCNA ( which many networking professionals have anyway and still can't find jobs). Because employment in IT is currently very tight ( and has been for quite a few years in many IT fields), you need to consider that you might have to work in menial jobs such as taxi driving, cleaning etc. In either case, do not rely on part time employment income to cover your living and study costs. You will simply not be able to earn enough for that. At best, if you are working around 20 hours per week ( I think this is the maximum that you will be permitted to work during semester), then you will be earning roughly around $18,000 - $20,000 per year. You main obstacle in "getting a better job" will be that you are not born in Australia and are an overseas student. It will be tough. Very tough. Hope this helps.
2 :
The min amount you will be paid is around $14 an hour - after taxes etc it will be around $11 per hour - so 20 hours will give you around $220 a week or $440 a fortnight after taxes. The average shared accommodation rent in Sydney is around $180 per week not including gas, electricity, phone etc. So you will need to have an alternative source of income to survive while you are studying here.

What would be the easiest route for a future postgrad student to relocate from Australia to London?
What would be the easiest route for a future postgrad student to relocate from Australia to London?
A sudden strong impulse to move to London has taken wing and I'd like to explore every possible option available. Applying for scholarships I presume would aid the process greatly; could anybody guide me on this? Maestro: Thou protest to much, methinks! Anyway, if you don't have anything useful to say *points to the exit door*. Thanks for the link, Maestro. :-)

EDIT: What you'd have to do is look up your university of choice in London. For example, Imperial College has an entire office dealing with quandaries such as yours; here's the link http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/students/international I would also question the office about scholarships and aid, though I'm not sure they would grant these to international students. You'd probably have a better chance getting money through some Australian organization promoting international study, or something like that. Bottom Line: Decide which school in London would be for you and contact that school for information. I think this is one of those things you can't simply Google. Best of Luck.

Why? Do you think you will get a better quality of life here? You do realise that Australia has one of the fastest growing economies right now, while sadly the UK is slowing down. I'm not saying don't travel: please come and visit and try for an internship, but life is not a bed of roses and the grass this side of the world is not greener. The only thing that will really speed the process is determination, ability and hard work. ( ps- I don't know what's wrong with Maestro!)
5 :
It's fairly simple for a young Australian to get a two-year work visa for the United Kingdom since it's a Commonwealth country. You can go through an organization like the one linked below or get the visa on your own. It's much more challenging to find a steady job with a salary that is substantial enough to support yourself and live decently in London. Many who go there on "working holiday" visas wind up living in youth hostels or way out in zones 5 or 6 because they can't afford a flat in central London. It's a staggeringly expensive city that can a joy to live in or a misery depending on your finances, friends, and outlook. The most stable route would be to get a professional job with an international company and request a transfer to their London branch in a few years. My cousin in London is engaged to an Australian girl who works for Deloitte Touche, and she's had a much more enjoyable experience than most others her age. She's 25 and had worked for the Sydney branch for a couple of years before requesting the transfer to London. The company foot the bill for her relocation costs and paid for her first few months in London. Don't move to London impulsively unless you have the funds to cover your living fees without immediate employment. You should also have sufficient funds to supplement a subpar income. Land a job before you embark, or have something sturdy lined up. Write to temp agencies in the city and see if they're taking anyone with your qualifications. Look on job sites. If you're just wanting a lighthearted job look into working for a company like Lush, The Body Shop, Starbucks or STA that have branches everywhere. If you worked for an Australian location for a while you'd probably have a better chance of getting a position in a London location since you'd already have the training. You might also want to consider an academic fellowship. I don't know quite how they work. My mom had one when she came to the US from London, but she is a specialized doctor so there were special circumstances. I do think you should try to live abroad at some point in your 20s or early 30s because the opportunity to won't be as reachable once you're older. There are youth visa programs for New Zealand, Australia, Canada, South Africa, the US, and various other countries, but most are restricted to people under the age of 35 or 30. Gather ye rosebuds while ye may! Gather them wisely, though. I hope to live in Paris for a year or two when I'm your age. London is appealing to me as well since I have family in the city and surrounding areas. I think you'd have fun if you carefully constructed your experience there. A lot of Australian expats live in the city, and they seem to be a friendly, welcoming bunch. There is this chain of Australian-owned pubs and clubs called the Walkabout where a lot of expats like to mingle, and one of the locations is in a former church on Shaftsbury. The vibe is cornier than a cornhusk, but sort of fun, and they let me party with them when I was 14-15. Hmm. Maybe that's a negative, actually. Anyway. Check it out if you go there! The building itself is really interesting. There are a ton of websites with information about moving abroad or going on a "working holiday" so do begin gathering your research. Best of luck! ~ skylark : )

you can become an international student by applying to a university (its uni not college here in Australia) this means you can take your whole degree in Australia. its a bit more expensive being an international student, but i suppose it would be about the same as in america. It depends on where you want to study also, I recommend Melbourne because everthings in melbourne and they have alot of uni's Monash uni and university of melbourne are good choices. Student accomadation is also readily avaible at most uni's

G'day, MAD answer has given you a good basic. As a highschool leavers from US, you will need to do a Foundation Studies for 1yr before starting your bachelor degree in uni. Foundation Studies are available in every universities in Australia. To find out abt the university that offers the course that you want to study in, the online database below will give you the answer. Visit the uni's international students' website and you can get the info abt the course and tuition fees. You can then either download the application form, or apply online. Please include your academic documents when submitting your application. If you are accepted, the uni will send you letter of offer. Pay the fees that stated in the letter of offer and you can then apply for student visa. Hope this helps. Good luck on your study and welcome to Australia :)

Anyone to sponsor for a foreign student interested to study Masters in Australia?
In reality, sponsors DO NOT pay anything; it̢۪s the students who provide first semester's tuition and six months living expense from home (approx AUD 20,000). Working part time covers for the rest. However, a student willing to study in Australia have to manage sponsor who is required to show not only AUD 50,000 but also a load of legal papers (source of fund, bank statements, tax returns etc)- a MERE FORMALITY that is keeping students (who can afford twenty but not fifty) from studying in Australia.

There are tons of scholarships that go unclaimed each year. Many $400, $500 or $1000 scholarships never even get applied for because people think it's chump change and not worth applying for. Well, get a few of those $500 scholarships and it'll really make a dent in your tuition bill. Do a search on scholarships, search your major, your ethnic heritage, your town, your parents employers, your employer, hobbies, high school, local chamber of commerce/rotary/ lion's club etc. Left-handed? There is a scholarship out there for you! Older woman returning to school? There are scholarships out there for you. Do combined searches on more than one criteria "hispanic women aviation scholarships" etc. Go to the library and ask the reference librarian for a reference book on scholarships. They usually have more than one. There are all kinds of scholarships out there, you just have to start applying yourself and make it your summer career to send out letters everyday for scholarships. Good luck!

Depending on where you work, and speaking from experience.... It increases with age until you're 21 and depending on your position. Assuming you'll be working in hospitality (since most seem to!), you'll be earning about $18 an hour, before tax. Keep in mind that you'll get this tax back when you leave the company (I think). Dependant on how much you make a week the company may also take superannuation out of this as well. I'd suggest getting your RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol), crucial if you want to work anywhere that serves alcohol. Get yourself a job in a bar/busy restaurant, and then work at making extra money through tips!

What kind of I.D can a foreign student apply in Australia besides driver license???? let me add this again...besides driver license & passport. In U.S ...you can apply for State I.D...Passport is difficult to renew..and some ignorant people don't recognize the cultural difference that shows up in passport...or they don't simply don't recognize other countries...passport...

a passport is totally an international ID of a person. your passport works everywhere around the world as your ID
2 :
While Australia is a relatively safe country I wouldn't recommend carrying it around in your back pocket or your purse. What if you lose it! If you don't have a driver's licence youmight be able to get a Photo Card from the RTA (first link). I think the reason why some people don't accept foreign passports is because it's harder to determine if another country's passport is fake or not. Banks, government institutions and such should be accepting it but say buying liquour might be a bit harder. Students should be able to get their university or tafe ID cards. I'm not too sure about high school id. Possibly medicare or credit cards or any clubs or associations you belong to.

exchange programs happen through sister cities, and you will have better luck going to a local gov't building and asking them if there is an exchange program instated. I live in America, and the exchange program from my city goes to New Zealand, China, Germany, Macedonia, South Korea, France, and South Africa. You can always wait till youre in college and just try to get into a school abroad, that might be an easier solution. Good luck!

Do you have to have AUS$18,000 to enter Australia on a student visa?
I know something about $18,000 to support yourself while studying in Australia, but reading up on it it doesn't seem that you have to have it. Does anyone have the right answer for me? Thanks

Email your contact at the school, they should know this if they take foreign students on a regular basis.
2 :
The financial requirements for an Assessment Level 1 student to get a Student visa are that you must declare on your application that you have access to the following funds for the duration of your course i.e. 3 year course, multiply the first 2 below by 3: ̢ۢ $18,000 per year for living expenses ̢ۢ Your tuition fees ̢ۢ A return airfare The department must be satisfied that an applicant, once in Australia, will have genuine access to the funds they claim to possess. You will have to produce the proof before you will be allowed into the country. Even assuming that you get in without the funds, how do you imagine that you'll be able to live in this very expensive country? You are allowed to work for 20 hours per week during the semester (though you can work for unlimited hours during official course breaks), but it will almost certainly cost more than $18,000 for living expenses and you'll find it very difficult to earn that much while you're studying (and your studies MUST be full time or your visa will be cancelled).

Australia - How long can a student stay in Secondary?
Australia - How long can a student stay in Secondary?
Student (14) is not a high achiever (well behaved though) but wishes to stay as long as possible and achieve VCAL certificate. Can a college refuse their enrolment to continue their studies? I would expect a college to retain as many students as possible to enable completion of their studies although I don't feel they are encouraging this. I believed the Government was advocating students stay in education to at least 17 years. Any responses most welcome.
Primary & Secondary Education - 3 Answers

They cannot refuse anyone education, especially in VCAL, because those courses are normally for people who don't want to go to high school and dropped out, or had problems with school.
2 :
Education is a right, so no, the student can't be asked to discontinue studies. The VCAL certificate is year 12 equivalent (?), so as long as they pass Years 7 - 11 then they have every right to enrol in the program and complete it.
3 :
Sorry I can't help, but interesting answers so far.

American exchange student going to Australia?
American exchange student going to Australia?
I plan on going to Brisbane or the Gold Coast for a year for an exchange student program. I'm from Portland Oregon, what are some differences between the two places? Anything about Brisbane or the Gold Coast will help. Thank you.

There aren't really that many differences. Brisbane is just more of a typical city. So it has more shops, more events, more city-stuff, so to speak. It's probably a better place if you actually want to study hard or make connections and all that kind of stuff. It's probably got a lot more variety than the Gold Coast regarding people, things to do and see, and different scenes to get into. The Gold Coast is kind of designed for tourism and holidays, so it's a really fun place, with lots of entertainment. It's really beautiful, great beaches, really "fun" atmosphere and good nightlife etc. At the same time, it can be annoying how tourist-y it is. It's also quite a bit smaller than Brisbane. It really depends what you want to get out of your trip. I'd advise you go to Brisbane. It's just more complete and more diverse. The Gold Coast is amazing but the novelty wears off after a while when you live there. Remember also, the two cities are only a train ride apart. So you should go and spend some time on the Gold Coast; visit Surfer's Paradise and the theme parks, etc.
2 :
They are both very close together (around an hour by car or train). Brisbane has 2 million people, the Gold Coast has about 700,000. The Gold Coast is far more tourist-oriented than Brisbane, it is compared by many to Miami. There is lots of nightlife and entertainment, but it is very expensive and the transit system is terrible. Brisbane is much larger, but lacks the tourist vibe of the Gold Coast. There is still entertainment and nightlife available in and around the city centre, but it is more suburban. The transit system is much better in Brisbane, too.
3 :
Like the other two posters said, if you want to really experience life as a local with locals, Brisbane might be your best bet. But then again, everybody has their own style of living. Also, Queensland people have the thickest Aussie accents you will ever find lol. My cousin who lives in Australia said that the Gold Coast was beautiful! But then again, what part of Australia isn't? :) If you can't decide, just do what I have been doing for the past 3 hours: Google street view it. Have a lot of fun on your trip! EDIT: I haven't been google viewing YOUR answer for 3 hours. I was googling my own lol.

depends where u r and wat kind of job u do...
2 :
depends on what your doing, which state you are working in and the times that you are working.
3 :
Does all depend ! but certainly you have much better prospects than working and studying in say the US for example, where their minimum wage in hospitality might be say $2.80 per hour, or very close to, with tips they may earn anything, but usually around about $12.00 per hour in Washington D.C - I know from working there. I was lucky being Aussie - it was a sideshow for them, but paid far better for me all the same. In Australia the same job in Sydney might pay about $18.00 per hour, without having to worry about grovelling for tips! you can budget on your wage knowing thats what you will receive. Also in the US if they don't like you guess what you'l earn about $2.80 per hour! So yes do come, enjoy, pimp your girlfriend so you won't have to work and take in a beautiful Harbour view! Enjoy !!

Brisbane and the Gold Coast are pretty similar in weather being just an hour or so apart by land transport (car, motorbike etc). Brisbane is probably more of a city, whereas the Gold Coast is more touristy, party orientated.

Scholarship requirements to study in Australia as an international student?
Scholarship requirements to study in Australia as an international student?
I'm currently in high school in the U.S., but I'm no citizen. Seeing how the cost of unis in Australia are thrice cheaper than unis here, I'm considering it as one of the possibilities. Say I'm accepted to a school and want to apply for financial aid, scholarship, whatever you call it. What are the usual attributes, test score (and what test really matters, SAT, TOEFL?..), grade ...etc etc.. requirements for those entering as an undergraduate to possibly get financial aid?

Australian university international fees are around 20K per year (plus accommodation costs etc) which I believe is on par with the US fees. The "cheapness" is only available for Australian citizens. The fees are able to be postphoned through HECS and paid back once you are earning over 30K per year. Australian citizens are also eligible for AUSTUDY which is money for the first undergraduate degree. As such, Australia does not have a scholarship program, as all Australians are deemed either eligible for AUSTUDY or have parents deemed rich enough to support them themselves. The only undergrad scholarships across the country is for study at Duntroon/military university and they accept only Australians. PhD scholarships are the only scholarships our universities have.

UC Berkeley, UC SB, and UNC out of your list would be great schools. Also not on your list that you may want to consider is Arizona State University. Phoenix is a bigger area than Tuscon where the University of Arizona is, so there's a lot more to do and in my experience ASU has been way more social and friendly than U of A.

Cal- SB Tenn UNC dont waste your time going anywhere else.

hi, go to www.immi.gov.au and select the student visa section for options that apply to you, cheers
2 :
http://www.immi.gov.au/e_visa/ thats the website, but theyre doing maintenance at the moment. Its not hard to get a visa to come here unless you have a criminal record or history of bad behaviour etc.
3 :
try the australian embassy
4 :
Just keep in mind that the US summer is winter here, it's best to head north in winter eg Cairns, Darwin, Broome
5 :
The type of visa that you can get will depend on your passport country. You would definitely qualify for a subclass 676 Tourist visa, but there may be easier ones if you're a citizen of one of the countries with special arrangements with Australia. This official government site has all of the alternatives: http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/
6 :
Not being Australian or in the at country, you will need to contact the Australian Embassy, which is in New York. Now San Jose is where actually (California)? If so look up the listings for Embassy's or Representative Offices, like up here we have an Australian High Commission in Ottawa. Chris

Should I be an exchange student in Australia?
I'm 15 and i live in san diego. I really want to be an exchange student and at first i wanted to go to Italy but I dont speak the language (i'm taking spanish at school...i barely know that though). I was thinking Australia because the seasons are opposite from here and my councelor told me it would be way different than here. I know i wouldnt be learning a new language but theres a lot more reasons to be an exchange student than that. Oh and I was thinking of being there for a semester of school...or just during summer. what do you think?? being an exchange student doesnt mean you have to switch with someone. i was planning on going and staying there, and no one would live with my family.

Australia would be a great place to visit but, unfortunately, that would mean some poor Australian would have to take your place in USA.

My daugther went there. It is an awfully long plane ride. She got horribly sunburnt. It was very expensive. she missed her family, so no, I'd say stay closer to home. She went for 2 weeks at Christmas time.

If you adapt well to new situations and know you wouldn't get too homesick, I say go for it!! I spent three weeks in Italy and loved it, and I've always wanted to go to Australia. If your parents are reluctant about it, see about going for just a few weeks in the summer before going an entire semester. It would be a great experience and look good on a college app.
5 :
no , i think you go Third World for a real experience.Such as Argentina ( Spainish ) , Africa ( Spainish , English , French , Portuguese ) , or Southeast Asian .
6 :
Well if you study abroad I say do a little reading on some countries on wikipedia. As for "3rd world countries"...they are not even called that anymore...developing countries, I would seriously consider what you would be doing there. If this is your first time living a broad, go to a country that you feel that you would enjoy. I recommend England, Spain, Italy, New Zealand, or Japan.
7 :
Check out the Committee for Safety of Foreign Exchange Students. You lose a year of high school but if you wait until college you will receive college credit and it looks good on your resume. It costs from $3000 to $10000 plus your parents have to send you $200 per month or more. Sexual predators have been approved as host parents because fingerprint criminal checks are not done. Don't be surprised that criminals lie about their real names so their criminal past is not revealed. So I think it is too dangerous and you should wait until college.

I'm an international student in Australia, I think it's a wonderful idea. I was afraid just as you, now I'm happy I'm doing it. Once you make a few good friends, you be fine and you'll love it sooo much.. Go for it :)

They don't ride roos to school, they don't shoot crocodiles, and there AREN'T emus in the main streets! I'm from New Zealand which in case you didn't know is just across the ditch from Aussie, and I have been there about 5 times myself. It's very hot there, so be prepared for hot weather! I think you should go, it will be a fun experience and what have you got to lose? You will have to decide what part of Aus to go to, all the states have something different to offer. I suggest you go to Queensland [Brisbane] or Sydney or maybe Melbourne, as they are the most well known and have the most things to do. Have fun and good luck with your decision! <3 Hope I helped you a little

Well, Being an Aussie there is much to do.. You can go down to the creek and shoot some crocs, chase Emus down the main street (They're pretty quick). OR You can ride 'Roos to school. Best fun out!
